Dolci di San Giuseppe (3 Sicilian Cookies) with Ann Maloney

Sunday, March 9, 2025 | 3:00PM - 6:30/7:00PM (Includes a traditional dinner of Pasta di San Giuseppe)

$179.00 Per Station (Suitable for Dynamic Duos- see below for more details)

Join Ann Maloney for an entertaining afternoon making three of her favorite Sicilian cookies and get a tasty history lesson to boot!

  • Amaretti (Almond Cookies)

  • Cucidati (Fig Cookies)

  • Reginelle (Sesame Cookies

Sicilian sweets are delicious any time of year. Each March, however, Ann Maloney looked forward to sampling traditional fig, sesame and amaretti cookies as she visited St. Joseph’s Altars scattered throughout her hometown of New Orleans.

Each March 19, St. Joseph’s Altars -- traditionally elaborate, three-tiered presentations of seafood, breads, pastry and citrus -- can be found in private homes, churches, community centers and even hotel lobbies, grocery stores and bars in U.S. cities where large Sicilian immigrant populations settled in the early 19th century.

In this immersive class, as you learn the step-by-step, cookie-making process, you’ll also hear the fascinating tale of the la tavola di San Giuseppe that began in the Middle Ages in Sicily, when that island nation prayed to the saint for relief from famine. On the saint's feast day, March 19, Sicilians still build altars in thanks.

We’ll make the cookies that you can then take home to share with family and friends as you regale them with the delectable details about this religious and cultural practice, which is rich in faith, symbolism -- and even superstition. Keep in mind: each of these cookies freezes beautifully as well.

This an ideal Dynamic Duo class to take with your friends, family members or a sweet girls’ get-together.

Classic Austrian Sacher-Torte

Saturday, January 25, 2025 | 10:00AM - 2:00PM

$179.00 Per Station (Suitable for Dynamic Duos- see below for more details)

Join Mary Storey for an enchanting morning recreating the world’s most famous cake, the Classic Austrian Sacher-Torte,

  • Sumptuous Chocolate Cake Layers filled with

  • Delicious Apricot Jam and smothered in an

  • Indulgent Dark Chocolate Glaze and decorated with

  • the distinctive Sacher Piping and Edible Gold Leaf

The cake itself is the consequence of several lucky twists of fate. The first was in 1832, when the Austrian State Chancellor, Prince Klemens Wenzel von Metternich, tasked his kitchen staff with concocting an extraordinary dessert to impress his special guests. As fortune had it, the chef had fallen ill that evening, leaving the apprentice chef, the then-16-year-old Franz Sacher, to perform this culinary magic trick. Metternich’s parting words to the talented teenager: “I hope you won’t disgrace me tonight.”

Franz Sacher seized the moment and conjured up the confection of a lifetime, the chocolate cake that would go down in history as the ne plus ultra of desserts: the Original Sacher-Torte. Disgrace, in any case, was not on the menu that evening. The cake soon gained a cult following, and was deemed “presentable at court”. From then on, it was a favorite at the imperial court and soon went on to win the hearts (and palates) of the world.

Southern Brunch with Suzy Fleming Leonard

Sunday, January 19, 2025 | 10:00AM - 12:30PM

$169.00 Per Station (Suitable for Dynamic Duos- see below for more details)

Join Suzy Fleming Leonard for a Southern Brunch featuring her mother’s beloved Southern Sausage Rolls and a Spinach and Mushroom Frittata.

  • Seasoning Ground Pork (or Turkey) to taste- Spicy, Mild or Sweet

  • Creating Flaky Biscuit Dough

  • Whip up a Hearty Frittata with Mushrooms, Ricotta, Spinach and Mozzarella

When Suzy Fleming Leonard was a child, she knew she was in for a treat when her mother pulled out her mixing bowl, rolling pin and a pound of breakfast sausage. Within the hour, a pan of satisfying sausage rolls would come out of the oven.

The savory sausage with just a hint of spice, wrapped in flaky biscuit dough and drizzled with maple syrup was ideal for a leisurely breakfast.

The class will start with turning ground pork (or turkey) into breakfast sausage flavored to suit your taste — spicy, mild or sweet. Next, make the flaky biscuit dough, fill it and roll it with the sausage into two dozen savory sausage rolls. (They freeze beautifully.) While the sausage rolls bake, whip together a hearty frittata enriched with creamy ricotta and mozzarella. Add a side of fresh fruit for a Southern Brunch that’s perfect for warming a chilly January day.

As with all our Brunch Classes, we’ll have Mimosas, Fresh Fruit and Orange Juice to accompany your feast.

The class is perfect for an interactive brunch date or a girlfriends’ outing!
